Being Single During the Holidays

Being Single During the Holidays

About 9 years ago I had to bring my friend Nikki to my company Christmas party because I had no significant other at the time.  One of the wives asked if we were partners.  Nope, just SINGLETONS on Christmas. She looked sympathetic and said she was sorry.  Really? Um, that’s fine.  No need for a SORRY- if I were a lesbian OR because I was single.  Being single can be fun around the holidays. But being alone around the holiday’s sucks.

My suggestion for the Singles out there around the holidays is too HAVE fun. Enjoy the moments. Go ice skating… see a blockbuster. Invite your friends over for an Ugly Sweater Party. Go pick out a tree with some buddies and make a day of decorating it with Christmas music blaring. Look up what’s happening in your city. There are always fun parades and holiday festivals.

GIVE BACK! See what charities need some help and recruit some friends to help out. Nothing takes your mind off what’s NOT going right in your social life like seeing REAL people with REAL needs.

Organize an Orphan Christmas potluck with your friends, watch Chevy Chase and laugh.

I know that Charles Manson is married. Ted Bundy was too.  It's frustrating that serial killers are married and you haven't found someone you want to spoon with on the regular. When I was single I was like- WTF too.  But, I'm sure Ted's wife was a weirdo and I'd put a hun down on Charles Manson's lady being slightly off. It's better being alone, weirdo-free, than a part of a couple that's not working. Plus, the holidays are meant to be enjoyed. ENJOY THEM.

Don’t wait for someone to invite YOU.  Be the ringleader and do something fun for yourself. At In The Loop, the amazing event and activity club for singles we organize activities just like these…an Ugly Sweater Party, charity events, but we are only in Seattle… JOIN! www.intheloopsingles.com -if you live in the Northwest. If you are somewhere else in the world, take the initiative.

Happy Holidays!
