Okay, so dinner and a movie is fine. I love the movies and yes, I'm an eater. So I'm down with dinner and a movie, but NOT for a first date. Some people will spend $250 bucks on U2 tickets for a first date or $500 on Seahawks tickets...whatever...but that's a stretch...
So, if you want to be a bit more creative when going out with someone for the first time, here are a couple ideas;
1. HOMETOWN TOURIST: Everyone's hometown has something to offer. It could be a Corvette Museum, it could be The Statue of Liberty...depending on where you live. My suggestion is take a tour and grab a bite to eat at a joint that is a total cliche for YOUR city. In Seattle, take the Duck Tour, go to the Pike Place Market and throw a fish or stick some gum on the GUM WALL, Sit at the first Starbucks...you'll be surprised how many random tours your town has to offer.
2. PAINT & SIP. Painting classes with VINO provided are popping up everywhere. Even if you have no artistic ability at all- it's fun and it's interactive. Ya see, here's a secret- if you have something to do, then there's less of a possibility of stagnant small talk. It's way better than a pottery class, which tends to be slow and NEVER turns out to be a Demi Moore/Patrick Swayze thing. So get your paint on.
3. PROGRESSIVE DINNER: This takes a little planning but it's fun and kind of a mini adventure. Basically you are going to 3 restaurants. One for drinks and app's, one for the entree and one for dessert and coffee. It's best when the 3 restaurants are really diverse. Also, try to make sure the drive between the restaurants is 10 minutes or less.
4. HORSEBACK RIDING: Unless someone gets bucked off, horseback riding is always a winner. Even if your not a professional rider, it's fun. You're outside, getting fresh air and it's something people don't do everyday. I would also pack a nice picnic lunch or ask the stable if they can do a little bonfire afterwards, It's the bomb.
5. DIVE BAR KARAOKE: Most dive bars have a karaoke night. These are always full of colorful patrons and wannabee "American Idol" sad saps. The food is usually shitty and the singing is shitty. Which makes for a fun night. WARNING: If your date is high maintenance- choose from dates 1-4. Not everyone finds Dive Bar Karaoke as entertaining as others.
*And finally, a couple golden nuggets of 1st Date, dating tips. Do not ask your date out via text or email. Be a big boy (or big girl) and ask them out face to face or over the phone. Remember, who ever asks to other person out, pays. You do the asking, YOU do the paying. And like the killer Singles Club, In The Loop, Amazing Events & Activities for Singles- it's best to plan something fun -#intheloopsingles. Don't wing it - plan the date. It shows YOU CARE.;-)
